Malaysian Association of Hotels (MAH)-Penang Chapter has recently appointed SENTRAL Technology College, Penang to be the training provider for the “Supervision in the Hospitality Industry” training. This training program is sponsored by Northern Corridor Implementation Authority (N.C.I.A), under the “Stimulus Package” 2009 to upgrade the skills of the hospitality workforce in the Northern Region.
This training is a primer to the leadership and management of people in the hospitality industry. It is about supervising the people who cook, serve, tend bar, check guests in and out, carry bags, clean rooms, mop floors, repair rooms, etc.. – the people on whom success or failure of every enterprise depends.
The primary objective of this training programme is to provide the participants with a basic understanding of the supervisor’s role and responsibilities, a basic yet comprehensive knowledge about the different elements of the supervisor’s job, and a basic awareness and appreciation of the skills, attitudes, and abilities needed to lead and manage people successfully. A firm grasp of these three basics can provide a solid foundation for increasing skills and knowledge on the job and ultimately for achieving success through people at any level of management.
The 1st batch of hotel participants recently had their certificate giving ceremony after having completed a total of 16 classes of lecture, case studies, assignments and quizzes. 25 participants from 10 different hotels were given the “Supervision in the Hospitality Industry” Certificate of Attendance on the last day of their class.
The 10 participating hotels for this training programme are as follows:
G-Hotel, Equatorial hotel, Cititel Hotel, Bayview Beach Resort, Paradise Sandy Beach Resort, Berjaya Georgetown Hotel, Sunway Hotel Georgetown & Seberang Jaya , Red Rock Hotel , Naza Taluya hotel and Eastin Hotel.
The certificate giving was held on 7th December 2009 at Bayview Beach Resort, Penang for the Monday class and on 9th December 2009 at Equatorial hotel, Penang for the Wednesday class.
The program for the certificate giving was well attended by the various participating hotels’ General Manager, Human Resource Manager and various department heads. Most of the department heads came to give their support to their staff for having completed the “Supervision in the Hospitality Industry” training which was sponsored by NCIA under the 2009 “Stimulus Package”.
